Angelina Jolie Biography

Angelina Jolie (Los Angeles, June 4, 1975) is an American actress. She won three Golden Globes, two Screen Actors Guild Awards and an Oscar for her role in George Wallace (1997), Gia (1998), and Girl, Interrupted (1999). She gained international fame with her ​​role as video game heroine Lara Croft in Lara Croft: Tomb Raider (2001), and established himself as one of the highest paid actresses in Hollywood with the Tomb Raider sequel The Cradle of Life (2003).

Jolie proved her status as a successful action movie star with Mr.. And Mrs. Smith (2005) and Wanted (2008), her biggest blockbuster to date   and received critical acclaim for her roles in A Mighty Heart (2007) and Changeling (2008), for which she received an Oscar nomination. Forbes named her Hollywood’s highest paid actress in 2009 and 2011.

Besides her acting career, Jolie has been active since 2001 as a Goodwill Ambassador of UN refugee agency UNHCR. She is repeatedly voted the most beautiful and sexiest woman in the world.                 After marriages to actors Jonny Lee Miller (1996-1999 ) and Billy Bob Thornton (2000-03), Jolie has since 2005 a relationship with actor Brad Pitt, with whom she has six children.

Youth and Family

Jolie was born in Los Angeles, California as the daughter of actors Jon Voight and Marcheline Bertrand. She is a sister of director James Haven, a cousin of songwriter Chip Taylor, and a goddaughter of actors Jacqueline Bisset and Maximilian Schell. Jolie has German, Slovak, French Canadian, and Dutch blood.

Jolie then six months old her father left the family, then with her mother and brother moved to New York State.   Ten years later the family returned to Los Angeles, where the eleven-year-old actress decided Jolie and enrolling at the prestigious Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute.

Though a happy childhood had touched Jolie in her teenage years depressed.   In high school she was by her classmates teased her thin body and full lips, and wearing second hand clothes, glasses, and braces.   During this time she cut herself and wore only black clothes.   At the age of 14 she moved in with her first boyfriend, quit her acting classes and dreamed of a career as a funeral director.   Two years later , after the relationship ended, she rented an apartment near the home of her mother and continued her acting training.

Jolie years had no personal contact with her father.   In 2002, even the family name Voight from her name, delete and since then, “Angelina Jolie” her full legal name.   In 2010, recovered Jolie and Voight contact. In 1998, Jolie won a Golden Globe for her role in the biographical TV movie George Wallace (1997). That same year she played model Gia Marie Carangi’s tragic in the biographical TV movie Gia (1998). Critics praised Jolie’s performance as the lesbian, addicted to heroin, Carangi, they won for the second consecutive year, her first Golden Globe and Screen Actors Guild Award. After Gia Jolie moved to New York and temporarily stopped acting because she felt she had nothing left to give.

Jolie returned with Playing by Heart (1998), an ensemble production in which Sean Connery, Gillian Anderson, Ryan Phillippe and played. The film in general and Jolie’s performance in particular were well received. After Jolie appeared in Pushing Tin (1999) as the seductive wife of Billy Bob Thornton, who the following year she was married in real life. Jolie then worked with Denzel Washington in the crime film The Bone Collector (1999). The film had sales of $ 151 million worldwide,   but received bad reviews.

In 1999, Jolie starred as the psychopathic Lisa Rowe in the biographical film Girl, Interrupted. Jolie achieved international superstar status with her role as video game heroine Lara Croft in Lara Croft: Tomb Raider (2001). While Jolie was generally praised for her physical performance, the film received mostly negative reviews. The film was nevertheless an international success with sales of $ 275 million,   and launched her global reputation as a female action movie star.

Jolie then appeared as the sensual, but deceptive mail order bride from Antonio Banderas in Original Sin (2001). In 2002 she played an ambitious reporter who is told she will die within one week in Life or Something Like It. Both films received poor reviews, but Jolie’s performance was again well received by critics.

In 2003, Jolie repeated her role as Lara Croft in Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life. The sequel, though not as profitable as the original, had an international turnover of $ 156 million.   Later that year she appeared in Beyond Borders (2003), a film about aid workers in Africa. The film reflected Jolie’s interest in development, but was critically and financially unsuccessful.

In 2004, alongside Jolie as an FBI agent Ethan Hawke in the thriller Taking Lives. They also provided the voice of the fish Lola in DreamWorks animated film Shark Tale (2004), and had a small role in the sci-fi adventure film Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow (2004). That same year sang the role of Jolie Olympias in Alexander (2004), a biographical film about the life of Alexander the Great. The film was poorly attended in America, which Oliver Stone attributed to the image of Alexander’s bisexuality, but was an international success with sales of $ 139 million.

Jolie played in only one film in 2005, the action comedy Mr.. And Mrs. Smith, where her current partner Brad Pitt met. While filming Tomb Raider in Cambodia in late 2000 for the first time Jolie was personally aware of worldwide humanitarian crises. She contacted UNHCR, the refugee agency of the United Nations, to learn more about international problem.   In February 2001, Jolie on her first field visit, a 18-day mission to Sierra Leone and Tanzania.   In the following months she returned for two weeks returned to Cambodia and met later on Afghan refugees in Pakistan who is $ 1 million donated in response to an international UNHCR emergency appeal   On August 27, 2001 was Jolie named UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador to UNHCR headquarters in Geneva.   23

Jolie has visited shelters for refugees and displaced persons in over 20 countries.   In 2002 she visited the Tham Hin refugee camp in Thailand and Colombian refugees in Ecuador.   Later that year, visited Jolie various UNHCR facilities in Kosovo and the Kakuma refugee camp in Kenya where mainly refugees from Sudan stayed. They also met with Angolan refugees while filming Beyond Borders in Namibia.

In 2003, Jolie went on a six-day mission to Tanzania where she visited camps for Congolese refugees and spent a week with displaced people in Sri Lanka. Later that year she went on a four-day mission to Ciskaukasië in Russia. In conjunction with the release of the movie Beyond Borders she published Notes from My Travels, a collection of diary entries about her field missions in 2001 and 2002. During a private stay in Jordan in December 2003 she visited Iraqi refugees, and later that month she went to Egypt to meet Sudanese refugees.

During her first UN trip within the United States in 2004, Jolie visited asylum seekers in Arizona. In June of that year she flew to Chad to visit refugees from the Darfur region in western Sudan. Four months later, she returned to the area for a visit to West Darfur. Later that year Jolie met with Afghan refugees in Thailand, and at a private residence in Lebanon during the Christmas holidays she visited UNHCR’s regional office in Beirut, as well as some young refugees and cancer patients in the Lebanese capital.

In 2005 Jolie visited Afghan refugees in Pakistan, during the journey she met Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf and Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz. In November she returned to Pakistan with Brad Pitt to the effects of the Kashmir earthquake to determine. During the filming of A Mighty Heart in India in 2006, Jolie met with Afghan and Burmese refugees in New Delhi. She spent Christmas Day with Colombian refugees from San Jose, Costa Rica, where they handed out gifts. In 2007 returned Jolie returned to Chad for a two-day mission to the deteriorating security situation for refugees from Darfur to determine Jolie and Pitt gave then $ 1 million to three relief organizations in Chad and Darfur.   In 2008, Jolie’s first visit to Syria and twice went to Iraq, where they met with American troops and Iraqi refugees.

Jolie is involved in promoting humanitarian aid in politics. Since 2003 she regularly meets members of Congress to lobby for humanitarian affairs,   and was a driving force behind several bills to promote the situation of refugees and vulnerable children in the Third World.   Jolie has several times attended the World Refugee Day in Washington DC, and she was a speaker at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland in 2005 and 2006. In 2007 she became a member of the prestigious Council on Foreign Relations.

On the set of Hackers (1995) gave Jolie a relationship with British actor Jonny Lee Miller, her friend since the first relationship in her early teens. They married on March 28, 1996, during the wedding ceremony wore Jolie a black rubber pants and a white T-shirt with them the name of the groom in her blood had written.   Jolie and Miller went 18 months later separated and divorced on February 3, 1999. Jolie knows the divorce to the fact that they both were too young.

In 2005, Jolie was involved in a Hollywood scandal when she was accused of the reason for the separation between actors Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston to be. Jolie and Pitt would have started an affair on the set of Mr.. And Mrs. Smith (2005).
